The Charter of the Matter of Britain
What this world is, what it is not, and the few rules every tale here keeps.
The feeling we are building
The Matter of Britain is the story of a golden age that knows it will end. Arthur's kingdom is noble, bright, and full of wonders, and every tale is shadowed by the knowledge that it will fall at Camlann, betrayed from within.
Rules of the world
Honor is tested, not assumed. Knights are admirable because they are tempted and tried. Quests reveal the flaws of the people who ride them.
Enchantment has a cost. Magic in Britain is old, bound to places, promises, and bloodlines. A gift from the Otherworld always comes with terms.
The past and the legend blur. Post-Roman Britain, medieval castles, and Welsh myth sit side by side, as they do in the romances. Consistency with the sealed canon matters more than historical accuracy.
The ending is fixed. Stories may happen before, during, and after Arthur's reign, but none of them can prevent Camlann or change what the founding canon records.
What counts as canon
Everything in this chain, beginning with this charter. The founding entries summarise the medieval and Victorian sources. Everything after them was written by this community and accepted by it.
