The Round Table
The fellowship of Arthur's knights, seated at a table with no head so that none is placed above another.
The Round Table was given to Arthur as part of Guinevere's dowry by her father, King Leodegrance. Because it is round, no seat stands at its head, and no knight can claim precedence over another.
Each seat bears the name of the knight who holds it, written in gold. One seat, the Siege Perilous, is reserved for the knight who will achieve the Grail. Any other who sits in it is destroyed.
Knights of the Round Table swear each Pentecost to a common oath: to avoid murder and treason, never to be cruel, to grant mercy to those who ask it, to aid ladies and widows, and never to fight in a wrongful cause for love or for gain.
The fellowship is strongest at its founding and is slowly broken from within by rivalries, feuds, and secret love, above all that between Lancelot and Guinevere.
