Merlin
Prophet, enchanter, and counsellor to Arthur, born of a mortal mother and an otherworldly father.
Merlin is a prophet and enchanter, the son of a mortal woman and a spirit, which gives him knowledge of the past and glimpses of the future.
As a boy he revealed to King Vortigern why his tower kept falling: two dragons, one red and one white, fought in a pool beneath its foundations. He arranged the conception of Arthur, took the child to be raised in secret, and later guided the young king through his first wars.
He can change his shape and often appears in disguise, as a child, a beggar, or an old man.
Merlin foresaw his own end and could not prevent it. He fell in love with Nimue, one of the ladies of the lake, and taught her his arts. She used them to seal him away beneath a stone, or in a tower of air, and he was never seen at court again.
