Morgan threw Excalibur's scabbard into a lake and Arthur never found it. The scabbard, not the sword, is the thing that keeps its bearer from bleeding. Someone else found it: a miller's daughter, a poacher, a nun draining a fish pond. Write what the scabbard does to a life that was never meant to carry it, and what it costs to keep or to give up.
What would contradict the canon
- The scabbard never reaches Arthur. The canon has him without it at the end.
- It protects from bleeding; it is not a sword, a wish, or a cure for illness.
- No court rescue: if Camelot appears at all, it appears as rumour.
