Nyarlathotep

Unlike most of the Old Ones, Nyarlathotep takes an interest in humanity. Known as the Crawling Chaos, it walks among people wearing a human face, often that of a tall, dark, pharaoh-like showman who travels from city to city giving demonstrations of electricity, strange instruments, and prophecy.

Crowds leave these demonstrations disturbed, and cities he visits sleep badly afterward. Where he passes, things begin to go wrong: nightmares, madness, and a feeling that the world is coming apart.

It is said to serve as messenger and soul for the Outer Gods, and to have a thousand other forms. It is the one among them that seems to laugh.
