Arkham's respected university, whose library keeps books that are not lent to undergraduates.
Miskatonic University is a small but well-regarded institution in Arkham, known for its departments of medicine, literature, and antiquities, and for sending expeditions to distant corners of the world.
Its library is the real reason scholars travel to Arkham. Behind locked doors it keeps a collection of rare and dangerous volumes, including a Latin edition of the Necronomicon. Access requires the approval of senior faculty, and the head librarian keeps a record of every reader, every page, and every request that was refused.
The faculty includes serious academics who have seen things they will not describe in print. They tend to recognise each other by what they avoid saying.
Students are mostly ordinary young people who have no idea what is kept in the building where they study for their examinations.
